Writers Retreat and Refuelling Pit Stop
Step off the planet for a couple of days, with New Writing South
Treat yourself. Join us in the historic village of Alfriston, at Dean’s Place, a 14th century country house hotel, for an inspirational writing break in the glorious Sussex countryside. Lead by experienced writing tutor Vanessa Gebbie, the amazing value programme includes a series of optional writing workshops to challenge and inspire, a visit from a top literary agent and a dinner in the company of a special guest who will give us an insight into the publishing world. Plus there will be literary walks though glorious meadows and woods, time for reflection and much more. There will also be time for your own writing, browsing or exploring.
At the heart of your creative weekend are workshops with Vanessa Gebbie, an experienced teacher and writer of short fiction, that will stimulate and help you on your writing journey.
Set on the banks of the Cuckmere River at the foot of the South Downs National Park accommodation is in elegant and comfortable single or double suites with en-suite facilities, complimentary wi-fi, tea and coffee and a desk for writing. There are two graceful living rooms with large sofas and log fires and, for outdoor reflection and writing, glorious woodlands and gardens. Meals (all included) are prepared with fresh, local produce, both vegetarians and meat eaters catered for.
Prizewinning short story writer Vanessa Gebbie is an experienced writing tutor, editor and author of two collections of short fiction and a novel The Coward’s Tale, published by Bloomsbury. Vanessa is also contributing editor of Short Circuit, a Guide to the Art of the Short Story.
