Poems on joy and sadness in South Poetry

Two poems by Claire Booker appear in the latest issue of South poetry magazine. ’Tomato Soup’ revisits the final months of her father’s dementia, whilst ‘New Arrival’ takes joy in the magical experience of motherhood. Claire is published along side such poets as A F Patterson, Caroline Vero, David King and Marjorie Sweetko.

The cover of South (issue 45) features a fantastic shot of Brighton’s collapsing West Pier silhouetted against a stunning silver seascape. This really hits the spot for Claire, who spent her student years at Sussex University and remembers the West Pier in its full glory. Decrepit wreck? Tragic has-been? She know how it feels!

Rottingdean Writers’ Group

We currently have vacancies for two new members. We meet twice a month in a private club in Rottingdean, and are a friendly, eclectic group of writers – mostly published – of poetry, fiction, screen-plays and journalism. There is a good balance between genders and age-range, we read ‘homework’ set by the chair (this non-onerous task rotates monthly) and have guest speakers, ‘hot writing’ exercises and fun. DINNER PARTY was inspired by Harold Pinter’s late play ‘Celebration’ screened featuring Sir Michael Gambon. I could not beleive the clientele would be so polite to the waiter (as that had not been my experience of restaurants).
