About Robin Houghton
Author of Blogging for Creatives (Ilex Press, 2012), a best-selling non-techy guide to setting up and maintaining a blog. Forthcoming also from Ilex: Blogging for Writers and The Rules of Blogging and How to Break Them (2014/ 2015).
I devise and teach courses for writers wanting to improve their social web presence, including regular courses at New Writing South, and offer mentoring services to writers. My main website is robinhoughton.com
I have over twenty five years’ experience of commercial writing: everything from business articles in the trade, professional and business press to marketing copywriting and search-optimised websites and blogs.
Since 2002 I’ve run my own online marketing business and have trained hundreds of small businesses, individuals and organisations in online communications, email and social media. My background is in marketing communications: in the 20th century I held international marketing roles in the sports industry.
Poetry: I’m a fledgling poet, with work in The Rialto, Agenda, The North, Mslexia, Poetry News and many other magazines and anthologies. A poem of mine was awarded the Hamish Canham Prize from the Poetry Society in 2013. My first pamphlet is The Great Vowel Shift (Telltale Press, 2014). I set up Telltale Press for the purpose of publishing short first poetry pamphlets: the second title will be Peter Kenny’s The Nightwork (autumn 2014).
