About Josey De Rossi
I loved doing my theatre history doctorate at the University of Sydney. At the time I had been working as a drama teacher in schools and working in various community theatres. I thought postgraduate studies was a great way to stay in touch with theatre while my children were little and I had to do the many, many routine things that all mums need to do - like doing school runs, listening to reading and making sure that the kids wore matching socks! I have also enjoyed being a curriculum writer in arts and drama education. My co-writer, Heather Timms (now a success AD in Wellington, NZ) and I produced an award-winning Year 11 drama textbook which won first prize in The Australian’s Excellence in Educational Publication Award in 2002. In 2003, I was appointed the writer for the Drama Course of Study and between 2006 and 2009 I wrote three textbooks for the new course with another talented co-author, Nicole Stinton. Between 2002 and 2007, I was director Fantastic Learning Systems Pty Ltd at the Biscuit Factory Arts Centre, South Fremantle in Western Australia: in that time I worked with over 2000 young people between the ages of 4 and 17. As FLS’ Director, I formed many creative partnerships with schools and local communities to ensure that the Arts were placed at the centre of young people’s experiences. These days my life is singularly focused on just playwrighting – seeing if any of the many first drafts which I created in my very busy past life has any merit. I recently completed a unit in 'Writing for Theatre and Performance' at Goldsmiths, New Cross with Rebecca Smith - very useful and informative.
