When writing prose fiction or memoir, writers may have to ask themselves complex questions, and explore constructs such as irony, nostalgia and anachronism. When should you use irony? Should you avoid nostalgia? Does your narrative contain chronological inconsistencies (anachronisms)? In this seminar, broken down into three sections, Trevor Pateman will help you to explore these questions and provide examples for discussion.
Trevor is the author of creative writing guide Prose Improvements and a memoir, I Have Done This in Secret. He taught at the University of Sussex for many years, including on courses similar to those now offered by the Creative Writing Programme.
