New Writing South is led by people who know what it is to be marginalised and how this limits opportunities. We are proactively seeking ways to ensure writers of all backgrounds (including BME, working-class and LGBTQ+) are supported to develop their voices and share their stories. As part of this, we run Open Space, opening up The Writers’ Place, in the heart of Brighton, free of charge to writers who identify as marginalised so they can come together, network, hatch plans and change the world through their writing.
Once a month on a Thursday afternoon we hold a free drop-in writing session for BME writers. The Writers’ Place offers a quiet and comfortable room with wheelchair access, wi-fi, plugs for laptops, and a small kitchen. We can accommodate up to 15 people in these sessions. Just turn up and write.
