Free Online Creative Writing Workshops for LGBTQIA+ Autistic Writers, based in the South East
New Writing South is collaborating with Writing East Midlands to deliver a series of online creative writing workshops for Autistic and Neurodivergent LGBTQIA+ adults, based in South East England. Beginning on 15 January, the workshops are for all over 18s, with no diagnosis needed. Held on Zoom, with no rules about how participants interact – on or off camera is fine, and there’s no obligation to share writing.
The workshops will be led by K Angel, an autistic trans/non-binary writer, performer, and researcher. Shortlisted for the Virago Furies Competition, their projects across form and genre play with myth, consent, chosen family, and metamorphosis interruptus. They live in London, where they co-host the playwriting group Fresh Lines Writers and the generative workshop series Relatively Queer.
Beyond the Spectrum is a national project, led by Writing East Midlands, funded by Arts Council England and the National Lottery Community Fund. It offers creative writing workshops for autistic writers, led by autistic writers, as well as championing autistic creativity by connecting autistic imaginations in a nationwide community. These workshops, which will run weekly from January to April 2025, are the first time the project has been delivered in the south east.
