The programme and tickets for the Brighton Book Festival are now LIVE and available for booking!
Taking place over three days in June 2022, the festival includes 15 events across the weekend including panel discussions, a family festival bookish brunch, workshops and more.

Feminist Futures | Saturday 25 June | 17.30-19.00

With increasing division within the movement and in the face of set backs around the world Is the feminist movement in crisis? What does feminism mean today and what purpose does this movement serve? What is the role of literature in helping us to envisage feminist futures? Are these visions simply utopian or can we chart a bold, attainable and hopeful course for the future?

British Culture | Saturday 25 June | 19.30-22.00
In 2004 Andrea Levy’s masterpiece Small Island was published. The book won numerous awards, was made into a play and shot Levy to fame. Levy passed away in 2019 but her book continues to have impact as it explores topics related to British Jamaicans and how they negotiate racial, cultural and national identities.
Selected as a book on the Big Jubilee read it is time to look again at the book, what it is to be British and the influence the book has had on other authors’ lives.

Queer Culture | Sunday 26 June | 17.30-19.00

We are thrilled to be heading to the newly refurbished theatre at The Actors Pub (formerly The Marlborough Pub and Theatre) to talk about the intersections of books and culture, Brighton’s Queer Culture to be exact! Hosted during Pride month, at a venue that has been regarded as a haven for queer communities since the 1970s we cannot think of a better time or place for this discussion.

Join us at this festival finale! Dorothy Koomson, Leroy Logan and Saima Mir examine their relationship and experiences with the idea of the ‘mainstream’, considering questions like:
At what point did they consider their books to have become mainstream? What exactly is ‘the mainstream’? How has this construct shown up in their path to publication and subsequent success? If we deconstruct the myth of the mainstream what will take its place?
