LGBTQ+ writers wanted for Celebrating our Stories!

October 11, 2019

As part of New Writing South’s Celebrating our Stories project, we have been collecting the stories of older LGBTQ+ people across the South East of England. These stories will become a series of performances in a festival celebrating the lives of older LGBTQ+ people next year.

You may have seen two of our participants, Persia and Steph perform one of the stories at our recent Coast is Queer festival (pictured above), giving you a flavour of what’s to come.

We have now reached the stage of the project where we are inviting LGBTQ+ writers to respond to the stories we have collected in a series of writing workshops in Brighton and Hastings.

In these workshops, we will listen to some of the stories we have collected and through discussions, writing exercises and activities, explore how we can use them as prompts for our writing.

Led by the playwright, director and the Artistic Director of Celebrating our Stories – Dinos Aristidou – come along to listen to, celebrate and write about all things LGBTQ+.

The workshops are suitable for LGBTQ+ writers of all ages, whether new to writing or with many years of experience. The dates are yet to be confirmed but will take place over the next couple of months. Please email hello@newwritingsouth.com to register your interest.

We will also be holding a reception to launch the next phase of the project and how you can get involved. We’ll also share some of our recordings and perhaps even see a story or two performed. Please email hello@newwritingsouth.com to be the first to hear about it.
