Open space for BME, Working Class, LGBTQ+ and other marglinalised writers and groups

August 12, 2019

New Writing South is led by people who know what it is to be marginalised and how this limits opportunities. We are proactively seeking ways to ensure writers of all backgrounds (including BME, working-class and LGBTQ+) are supported to develop their voices and share their stories. As part of this, we are launching Open Space, opening up The Writers’ Place, in the heart of Brighton, free of charge to writers and creative community groups who identify as marginalised so they can come together, network, hatch plans and change the world through their writing.

Open Space at The Writers’ Place will happen on select Thursdays from September 2019 onwards for writers and groups who need a safe, friendly and supportive environment to write or meet.
If this is you or your group, we would love to hear from you.

Open Space slots (1 – 3 hrs) are free but will be offered on a first come, first served basis and must be booked in advance, except on the BME Open Space Drop-ins dates when you can just turn up to work in the company of other BME writers.

The Writers’ Place offers a quiet and comfortable room with wheelchair access, wi-fi, plugs for laptops, and a small kitchen. We can accommodate up to 15 people. The space can also be hired on an hourly basis outside of Open Space slots with discounts for charities and community groups. See www.newwritingsouth.com for details.

If you would like to book a free Open Space slot please email us on hello@newwritingsouth.com with your information and eligibility. Please include the date and times you would like to use the space.
We’ll get back as soon as possible to confirm.
