Writing for podcasts — soundworlds and storytelling
Whether you’re a poet, a storyteller or a scriptwriter, this webinar will explore how to fine-tune your writing for online audio platforms.
We’ll look at the current podcast scene, the basics of recording at home, where you might find audiences across the internet, and using recorded performances (instead of text) to connect with industry contacts.
There’ll also be some fun exercises demonstrating tricks you can use to create soundscapes around your words – from sound effects to soundtracks. And we’ll even dig into how you can use existing recordings to inspire yourself at the beginning of a new story.
About the tutor
Neil Noon is a former full-time journalist who has since had drama and fiction broadcast on BBC Radio 4, and sold an (as yet unmade) series to Audible UK. He recently created howtomakewaves.com – a site promoting scripted podcasts – in collaboration with many of the most successful independent creators from the UK.
About First Tuesdays
First Tuesday Writers is here to keep your writing fresh. Taking place on the first Tuesday of every month, each 90 minute session offers a deep dive into a writer’s creative world – designed to challenge and energise you, and lead you to new creative discoveries.
Every writer and every form of writing has something unique that we can learn and put to use in our own work. These workshops are all opportunities to learn from radically diverse writers – including poets, bloggers, crime writers and much more. Drop in for one or two events or sign up to them all: either way, you’ll leave buzzing, and ready to do your best and most innovative work.
