Surrealism and the Poetry of Dreams with Sea Sharp
Where do we go when we rest? Where does our rest go when we are here? There are myriad possibilities woven into the fabric of the impossible. There is myth and magic in every molecule, every atom. The Irish poet, Patrick Kavanagh said, “Tragedy is underdeveloped comedy not fully born.” The juxtaposition of these two extremes are worth exploring. This masterclass will focus on the experimentation across poetics and dreamscapes, which will include some writing exercises, with time for sharing work for those who would like to.
About the tutor
Sea Sharp is a Pushcart Prize-winning poet of “The Tallgrass Shuffles” and author of the Prairie Seed Poetry Prize-winning debut, The Swagger of Dorothy Gale & Other Filthy Ways to Strut (Ice Cube Press, 2017). Their second collection, Black Cotton (Waterloo Press, 2019), was released the same year they developed and toured their Arts Council England-funded theatrical show, Brother Insect. Sharp is also an Obsidian Foundation alumni (2020). Their writing has been called “a visceral and sonic world of teeth and tornadoes” with “language that crackles.” Beyond the stage and page, they are often shy, claiming the right to remain invisible somewhere near Brighton, UK.
