The Writers’ Place becomes a takeaway cup-free zone

December 1, 2018

As we enter 2019, New Writing South is aiming to make The Writers’ Place a takeaway cup-free zone.

With up to 200 people using the space every week for classes, workshops and events, takeaway cups have been creating a small mountain of non-recyclable waste. Since October we’ve been encouraging staff and visitors to replace their paper takeaway cups with more sustainable options.

Please do continue to use our china mugs and cups when using the donations-basis tea and coffee making facilities. But if you’re purchasing takeaway tea or coffee off-site, we would encourage you to use a reusable cup or travel mug to help us make our venue more environmentally friendly.

We’ve had very positive feedback to our new initiative, and we have further plans for other sustainablity projects in the months ahead.
