Breaking the Mould
Breaking the Mould is a collaborative, wellbeing-focused writing workshop led by Turning Worm Theatre Joint-Artistic Director, Marcella Rick.
Turning Worm is a disability-led theatre company creating bold, queer new work, with accessibility embedded creatively at the heart of every project.
In this 90-minute online session, Marcella explores how their queerness, scouseness, and lived experience of disability have shaped a writing practice that resists traditional expectations of productivity. Together, participants will consider how dominant ideas of writing can limit both creativity and wellbeing.
Through guided discussion and practical exercises, the workshop will invite you to experiment with voice, language, and form – from writing in authentic regional dialects, to breaking grammatical conventions, to letting go of perfectionism (including the spell checker).
Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the “moulds” shaping their writing, and practical ways to break or reshape them in order to write more freely, sustainably, and authentically.
