LAST CHANCE to apply for a place on Theatre Royal Brighton Young Playwrights 2019. This group offers a great start for any young person (16 -25) wishing to explore a career in writing for the stage, with a unique opportunity to have their work performed for an audience in one of the South’s most prestigious theatres.
This year the group will be led by professional playwright Sara Clifford, whose work has excited us for many years.
Sara studied English at Manchester University and has an MA in Screenwriting.
Her first play, Some Sunny Day, was selected by both Paines Plough and the Soho theatre, as part of their Writers’ Development programmes, and she has gone on to write over thirty plays including commissions for the Soho Theatre, York Theatre Royal, and Nottingham Playhouse, and her work has been produced in France, Italy, Guadeloupe and Hong Kong. She has been Writer in Residence at the University of Brighton, and Writer On Attachment at Chichester Festival Theatre; and her play A Thousand Days, was a Finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn award. She initiated the project Twelve Angry Women, in Brighton at the Dome, and at the Circa Theatre, Wellington, New Zealand.
She is currently developing two new projects, Flo’s Gals, working with Jenny Sealey, and a commission for the South Downs National Park, The Inn Crowd; and is Director of her company, Inroads, developing site specific plays with local communities, including Home Fires and Our Dancing Feet and the forthcoming Tidemills.
She also teaches creative writing, dramaturgy and drama at Goldsmiths College, Brighton University and the Central School of Speech and Drama; and is a tutor for West Dean College, the Creative Writing Programme and the Arvon Foundation.
