SUPPORT FOR WRITERS DURING LOCKDOWN

Although writing is an artform usually associated with periods of isolation, we’re keenly aware that protracted social isolation is for the most part not good for writers. Right now many of us are stuck or distracted and would value talking through a writing project in a bid to progress and find some much-needed motivation.

With this in mind, we are drastically reducing the cost of our 1-1 writers’ surgeries during this coronavirus lockdown period.

We’re also consulting with writers to find ways to improve and increase our support. You can read an updated post about our coronavirus response on our blog.

Here are a some ways we can support you right now.

Mentoring

Writing mentors can work with you on a specific project such as progressing the first draft of a script, editing an anthology of poetry or short stories, writing in a different media or honing a novel. Find out more.

1 – 1 Writers’ Surgeries

Our 1 – 1 Writers’ Surgeries are a professional development service that enables you to invest in yourself. Usually £150 per session, we are able to offer 1–1 Writers’ Surgeries at a drastically reduced cost, with a free initial consultation, during the coronavirus lockdown period. Find out more.

Our competitive script reading service provides an opportunity to get professional and objective feedback on your script prior to sending it out into the world. Find out more.

Arts Council England
Covid-19 support

Arts Council England have announced that £20 million will be available to individuals working in the cultural sector, including artists, creative practitioners and freelancers. First round of applications can be made between 9 – 16 April 2020.

Society of Authors
Authors’ Emergency Fund

The Authors Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS), the Royal Literary Fund (RLF), the T S Eliot Foundation in partnership with English PEN, and Amazon UK generously contributed financial resources to create the Authors’ Emergency Fund. 

Grants are likely to be up to £2,000 and designed to meet urgent need with the possibility of review as the situation continues.
