New Writing South, with support from Arts Council England, is offering four grants of up to £3,000 each to Crawley writers, facilitators and/or community groups to run creative writing activities in the town.
Whatever your idea, as long as it involves creative writing activities that people can take part in, we’re inviting you to submit an application.
We are holding an open surgery for you to come and find out more on Tuesday 9 June between 11am- 1pm at Revive Café at The Charis Centre. Do pop in to talk to us about it, you can also pick up an application form while you’re there.
WHAT WILL THE CRAWLEY MICRO-GRANTS FUND?
- We will fund creative writing activities and projects. They can be led by an individual or a group although there will have to be one lead applicant or organisation for the grant to be paid to.
- We fund new work or activity.
- We fund activities or projects that take place in Crawley.
WHAT DOES IT NOT FUND?
- The fund is specifically to support creative writing or literature projects. It cannot unfortunately support other artforms.
- We do not fund existing work or retrospective work. This must be for new ideas or activities.
- We do not fund work that is planned for after 31 March 2027. We would encourage you to find ways to continue your projects after the funded period, but the grants are to support work until 31 March 2027.
- We do not fund activity outside of Crawley.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I APPLY FOR?
The grants are for up to £3000 but you should apply for what you need to deliver your activity, so it may not be as much as that. Work out your budget, adding up all your costs to deliver the project, then add them to the budget template in the application form. It is always good to put in a small contingency for unexpected costs in prices change or something you hadn’t thought about comes up. Budgets that exceed £3000 will not be considered.
WHAT KIND OF EVALUATION OR MONITORING WILL THERE BE?
Successful applicants will be asked to monitor how their projects and activities are going. This will be very light touch and the team at New Writing South will be there to support you with this.
HOW MANY GRANTS ARE AVAILABLE?
We expect to fund 4 grants of up to £3000.
I’VE NEVER APPLIED FOR FUNDING BEFORE; WILL THIS GO AGAINST ME?
Absolutely not. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t applied for funding for a project before, the application form is straight forward although do ask if anything is unclear by emailing hello@newwritingsouth.com
We won’t, however, be able to help you write your application form. You will be in charge of your budget and will be asked to at the end of the project to write a short report on how the project went and how you managed the budget.
WILL THERE BE ANY SUPPORT FOR SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS?
Yes- depending on the needs of the successful applicants, e.g. support in project management or developing future funding applications, we will organise three get togethers during the funded period to support the projects.
